On November 29, an offsite meeting of the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Transport took place in Ufa, involving regional transport authorities to discuss improvements in road safety in Bashkortostan. The accident situation was reviewed based on the Regional Road Safety Rating, developed by Urbantech Group with the support of the Ministry.
The meeting in Ufa marked the first in a series of events aimed at improving road safety across Russia. Alexander Dombrovsky represented Urbantech Group as the speaker. He spoke about the efficiency of traffic enforcement cameras and their positive impact on road safety, using the Moscow Region as an example.
“We observe a significant reduction in traffic violations within the first two to three weeks following the installation of the traffic enforcement cameras. Then a gradual decline occurs over three to four months, ultimately resulting in a sixfold decrease in violations over six months. As a reminder, traffic violations are the leading cause of most road accidents,” the speaker emphasized.
The roundtable included participants from the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Transport and Road Facilities of Bashkortostan, the city administration, the Public Chamber of Bashkortostan, leaders from the State Public Institution “Central Road Traffic Safety Department” for the Republic, the Regional Center for Automated Enforcement of Traffic Offenses, the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, and the “Smart City” Research Center of the Higher School of Economics. They were joined by Alexander Dombrovsky, Deputy General Director of Urbantech Group, the technology partner for the Regional Road Safety Rating.
The rating serves as a practical tool for objectively assessing road safety levels in various regions. It has already been adopted by the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Transport as a working tool for evaluating regional accident rates and developing recommendations to enhance road safety.
Moving forward, Urbantech Group, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, plans to expand the targeted program of meetings to identify growth points for each region and determine development paths to improve road safety nationwide.
